How to replace the ink cartridge and print head, fix poor print quality, run a test print, clear a mail jam and check the piece count on the Mailcoms Mailbase.

How do I replace the ink cartridge on the Mailbase?

  1. From the home screen, press Options.
  2. Page down to Advanced Features and select it.
  3. Select Maintenance Mode, then Printer Maintenance.
  4. Select Replacement, then Replace Ink Tank.
  5. When prompted, remove the large scale platform if fitted, then open the cover on top of the machine.
  6. Select Replace Ink Tank – the carriage moves forward.
  7. Open the green clasp and remove the old cartridge.
  8. Remove the packaging and tape from the new cartridge and place it in the machine.
  9. Close the green clasp to lock the cartridge, then close the cover.
  10. Refit the scale – the cartridge loads and runs a maintenance cycle. Clear any messages that appear.

How do I replace the print head on the Mailbase?

  1. Press Options, page down to Advanced Features and select it.
  2. Select Maintenance Mode, Printer Maintenance, Replacement, then Replace Print Head.
  3. Remove the scale if fitted and open the top cover, then select Replace Ink Tank so the carriage moves forward.
  4. Open the green clasp and remove the ink cartridge, setting it aside to reuse.
  5. Squeeze the two grey clips on the print head, then lift and tilt it out of the machine.
  6. Remove the new print head from its packaging, take off the black cap and protective tape.
  7. Squeeze the grey clips and slide the new print head back into its holder, pushing until it clicks.
  8. Reinsert the ink cartridge and close the green clasp.
  9. Close the cover and refit the scale – the machine runs a maintenance cycle. Press Continue if it does not return home automatically.

How do I fix poor print quality on the Mailbase?

For streaking, blotching or fading, make sure you are using a Mailcoms ink cartridge, then run a purge and clean the print head.

  1. Press Options, Page Down twice, select Advanced Features, then Maintenance Mode, then Printer Maintenance.
  2. Select Purge, then Purge C.
  3. When prompted, insert an envelope or label to print a test pattern.
  4. If the grid prints cleanly, press Enter/Yes then Home. If not, repeat the purge (up to three times).
  5. If it is still poor, clean the print head: select Replacement, Replace Print Head, remove the scale, open the covers and remove the ink cartridge (set it aside with the red circle up).
  6. Squeeze the clips and lift out the print head, wipe the copper-coloured section with a dry lint-free cloth, then refit it until it clicks.
  7. Reinsert the cartridge and close the covers – the mechanism re-initialises. If print is still poor, the print head may need replacing.

How do I run a test print on the Mailbase?

  1. Select Options.
  2. Page Down to Advanced Features and select it.
  3. Select Maintenance Mode, then Printer Maintenance.
  4. Select Test Print.
  5. Insert an envelope, letter or franking label – the machine prints a test pattern.
  6. Select Yes if the test print is good, or No to run a cleaning cycle.

How do I clear a mail jam on the Mailbase?

  1. Twist the handle at the front of the machine clockwise to drop down the rollers.
  2. Remove any jammed items from inside the machine.
  3. Twist the handle anticlockwise to close.
  4. Press Clear This Message – the machine returns to the home screen.

How do I check the piece count on the Mailbase?

  1. Select Envelope Printing.
  2. The total number of items franked shows in the top right corner of the screen.
