How to track your mail with Royal Mail

You can track Royal Mail post using one of three services: Special Delivery Guaranteed (tracked door to door), Royal Mail Tracked, or Signed For (delivery confirmation and a signature). A franking machine gives you all of these at lower prices, at the click of a button.

How to track your mail

When you track your mail you can see the progress of your item and view the signature of the person who receives it. To do this you will need the 13-character reference number from your local Post Office.

If you use Royal Mail Signed For, you can see whether an item has been delivered and who signed for it, but not the full journey. To track your mail from A to B, use Special Delivery Guaranteed.

For mail sent outside the UK, use the Royal Mail International Tracked & Signed service.

Using a franking machine

If your business uses a franking machine, all of these services are much lower in price and available at the click of a button. Once franked, take your items to the Post Office so they can endorse them and you can keep a receipt.
